Victory and lead of the standings for Mies in Australia

Successful race weekend for Christopher Mies in the Australian GT Championship: Together with his teammate Ryan Millier the 26-year-old claimed a third place and a victory, and took the lead of the drivers’ standings before the season finale.

13 September 2015 – The battle for the Australian GT Championship title continued to intensify at the fifth of six events. After having arrived as the runner-up in the standings Christopher Mies tackled the first of two races on the 3.15-kilometre Sandown Raceway from position five. Together with Ryan Millier in the Audi R8 LMS ultra of Team Jamec PEM Racing he improved by one place and crossed the finish line in position four. Due to a retroactive penalty imposed on a rival in a better position the duo advanced to third place. With this result, Mies took the lead of the standings from his Audi brand colleague Nathan Antunes. “A third place is definitely an optimal outcome,” said Mies. “The Ferrari cars are simply unbeatable here on this long straight.”

But the event was to turn out differently. In order to compensate for the disadvantage versus the squad’s rivals, the mechanics of the team just altered the car overnight. Their efforts were successful, as Mies/Millier were beaming from the podium as the race winners after 49 laps. For Mies, this marked the third success of the season in Australia this year. “A huge thank you goes to my team that did an awesome job,” said Mies. “We didn’t expect victory on this track – that makes it even sweeter: time to enjoy the champagne.”

In the coming weeks Christopher Mies will be contesting further races in the Blancpain Sprint Series before reaching for the title in the Australian GT Championship season finale at Highlands Motorsport Park in New Zealand in November as the leader of the standings.
