New livery for the returning Haber in Townsville

Tuesday July 7, 2015

North Queensland pilot Morgan Haber will debut a revised silver livery on the re-shelled #28 Erebus Motorsport SLS AMG GT3 when he returns to the Australian GT Championship presented by Pirelli this weekend.

After an extensive rebuild process which took around 400 hours, the 21-year-old is eager to get back to racing at the Townsville Street Circuit for Round Three after a crash at the opening race in Adelaide sidelined his entry for the first two rounds.

Co-driving the #36 sister SLS AMG GT3, teammates Geoff Emery and Max Twigg currently sit in fourth place in the Championship class points standings after a successful outing in Phillip Island last round yielded a third place result.

With both SLS’s competing this weekend, Erebus Motorsport’s seven-car fleet will be complete, alongside two V8 Supercars and three V8 Utes.

Haber (pictured right with original car prior to Adelaide) said he was eager to get back behind the wheel, having benefitted from a recent test day at Winton.

“I had a good test day the other week at Winton. It was great to get back in the car and I felt comfortable,’’ said Haber.

“Unfortunately after crashing in Race One in Adelaide, I’ve basically missed two rounds now so the Championship is out of the question but I want to finish as best I can, and get some strong, consistent results this weekend.

“We should be poking around the pointy end but we’ll see how the weekend will shake out.

“Townsville can be a pretty daunting place with all the walls, and especially after my crash in Adelaide.

“But I’ve raced at Townsville a few times in the Dunlop Series in the past and I have always enjoyed it.

“Around the back of the circuit is the most challenging part I think. That’s where time can be made up or lost.

“It’s the most flowing part of the track where you need to keep speed up.”

Erebus’ Chief Executive Motorsport, Barry Ryan, is pleased with the attitude and focus displayed by the three drivers.

“Max and Geoff have shown great improvement in the SLS and we are looking forward to them continuing that development, and also their strong pace and consistency,” said Ryan.

“Morgan’s recent test week at Winton was focussed on high quality and accurate driving, and the sub-lap record pace he displayed demonstrated the skill we know he has.

“We are focussed on nurturing Morgan and helping him grow in confidence for the rest of 2015.”

In recent weeks the Australian GT category announced that the driver seeding system had been revised, introducing 12 driver categories to replace the former system comprising four categories.

The six professional and six amateur categories will dictate mandatory minimum pit stop times which are added to extra time based on grid position.

Haber has been seeded as a ‘PRO5’, Emery as a ‘PRO6’, and Twigg as an ‘AM1’.

“The additional seeding categories will benefit some drivers a bit because it will bring pit stop times closer together across the board, rather than big gaps between pit stop times,” said Haber.

“So hopefully that should make the racing a bit tighter.”
