Tony Quinn will drive a McLaren 650S GT3 in the first round of the CAMS Australian GT Championship at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide this weekend (March 2-5).
Quinn had been slated to run the Darrell Lea-backed squad’s Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3, but a last minute change of plans has seen the veteran racer switch manufacturers.
The change will see Quinn climb aboard the car which was campaigned by Klark Quinn during his Championship winning 2016 campaign.
Quinn has experience in the car, having shared it with son Klark, 2016 CAMS Australian Endurance Champion Grant Denyer and Highlands Park professional driver Andrew Waite at the Bathurst 12 Hour last month.
It’s a milestone weekend for Quinn, who is poised to become the first driver to reach 100 Australian GT Championship starts when he takes the grid on Sunday.
Since making his debut at Sandown in 2008, Quinn has chalked up 11 race wins, leaving him tied with former champ Greg Crick in seventh on the all-time winners list.
Quinn has also racked up a further 18 podium places, and more than 50 top ten finishes throughout his Australian GT career.
Track action for the 2017 CAMS Australian GT Championship gets underway tomorrow, with opening practice scheduled for 10:45.
Two qualifying sessions then follow before the first of the weekend’s three races gets underway at 10:35 on Friday (March 3).
