Ferrari’s new Australian GT challenger, the 488GT3, will make its international track debut at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park this weekend.
Two Melbourne-based teams, Maranello Motorsport and Vicious Rumour Racing, will race the 488GT3 in the CAMS Australian GT which returns to the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix after a 5 year hiatus. The race will kick off the cars’ 2016 CAMS Australian GT Championship season.
“We are delighted that Australia will be the first country in the world to see the 488GT3, Ferrari’s new GT Challenger, take to the track,” said Herbert Appleroth, CEO, Ferrari Australasia. “To have our client racing teams competing on the track alongside the Formula One team is a great thrill. We can’t wait to share the action with our clients and fans trackside at Albert Park.”
Ferrari test driver Andrea Montermini will share the Vicious Rumour Racing car with Benny Simonsen, the brother of the late Allan. The team has been allocated the second 488 GT3 chassis produced by prancing horse in Maranello.
Maranello Motorsport will run the 488 GT3 as the latest in a long line of Ferrari GT cars in 20-year association with the marque. Peter Edwards and co-driver Tony D’Alberto will debut the machine at Albert Park.
